Revitalising Rural Spaces: A Learning Opportunity for Local Authorities

Non-urban areas constitute a significant portion of the European territory and often face a series of challenges, including depopulation, an aging population, and a lack of services. Added to these challenges is the presence of abandoned, underused, or degraded spaces, which can negatively impact the quality of life for citizens and the attractiveness of the territory.

The regeneration of these spaces represents an important opportunity for local authorities to address the aforementioned challenges and promote the sustainable development of non-urban areas. Through regeneration, unused spaces can be transformed into vital and functional places that meet the needs of local communities, fostering social cohesion, economic innovation, and the protection of cultural and natural heritage.
