Non-urban communities in action: Youthwavers

Youthwavers is an informal youth group founded in 2024 and based in Thessaloniki, Greece. It is expanding its volunteer network to include Drama, Larissa, Athens, and other cities across the country. Founded by two university students with extensive volunteering backgrounds and experience in youth work, Youthwavers aims to create an active volunteer network for young people aged 15-30, engaging them in both local community and international projects.

The primary focus of the youth group includes raising environmental awareness and promoting sustainability, advocating for social and human rights initiatives, and addressing human-centric issues such as combating hate speech. They also tackle key areas of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UN Youth Goals, defend European values and identities, and develop social and human capital for gender equality and social cohesion. Additionally, the group encourages youth participation in society and fosters proactive engagement, empowers young people through non-formal education methodologies and digital means, and supports initiatives, both regional and European, that foster local, national, and international cooperation.
